I just wanted to post this because everyone here was so nice and so helpful that I’d like to help anyone out with this post if I can:
I was having issues where a typical GL program would crash or completely lock up my system.
I’m running Fedora Core 3 with gnome/enlightenment.
Here’s the fix:
The issue seems to be with the openGL implementation in the Mesa-GL rpm OR the radeon (opensource) kernal module. Which, I’m not exactly sure, but I’m leaning towards the Mesa-GL library libGL.so.1 or whatever …
To fix the hangups simply go to ati.com and get the linux driver rpm for xorg. Uninstall Mesa-GL and install the ati proprietary drivers which comes with their coding of opengl.
I didn’t need to mess with drivers, in fact I’m not even running ati’s. No xorg config. Nothing. Just get ati’s version of libGL.
I hope that helps someone.
Cheers!
