Advanced animation

Im just wondering, if anyone knows about
Quaternion’s. What im trying to acomplish is to animate a charachter that has been made in 3d studios, in which this character has bones, and you can physically control the bones within the code instead of animating the character within 3ds. This saves a lot of memory and makes the program a whole lot faster.
I would appreciate any reply.

I’m looking at doing keyframe animation with .3ds files, and I’ve found a couple libraries that load and animate the files (lib3ds is one, I think it was at http://lib3ds.sourceforge.net ). I’m not sure this would work with your bone system, but I found the lib’s by doing a google search. If you think this would suit your needs, let me know and I can try to dig up some specific links for you.
