SIGGRAPH Highlights: OpenGL’s 25th, BOF Blitz Party, and News

In early August the Khronos team was at SIGGRAPH in Los Angeles, where we celebrated OpenGL’s 25th anniversary at the BOF Blitz Party. We also announced a new website, as well as OpenGL 4.6, a growing glTF ecosystem, and the Vulkan Portability Initiative. Learn more about BOF Blitz.

Khronos @ SIGGRAPH 2017 - Schedule now online with updated list of speakers

The Khronos Group has updated the Birds of a Feather schedule and speaker list. If you will be at #SIGGRAPH2017 be sure to visit the BOF Blitz and After Party! BOFs include: OpenVX, NNEF, OpenCL and SYCL; COLLADA; glTF; WebGL; OpenXR; and Vulkan, OpenGL & OpenGL ES to wrap up the day. glTF has just posted their list of speakers, and what a line they have for you in store for you. At the end of the day, be sure to hang around for the BOF Blitz After-Party. The BOFs will be live streamed with video available afterwards, and t-shirts available online, for all those folks not attending.

GPU Caps Viewer 1.33.0 Released

GPU Caps Viewer 1.33.0 adds the support of some recent GPUs and fixes a crash in Vulkan demos with recent NVIDIA and AMD graphics drivers. All Vulkan code has been recompiled with latest Vulkan headers (v1.0.42). GPU Caps Viewer is a graphics card information utility focused on the OpenGL, Vulkan, OpenCL and CUDA API level support of the main graphics card.

Adoption Grows for Vulkan; New Features Released

Celebrating a successful first year, the Vulkan API is gaining tremendous momentum in high-fidelity gaming. Vulkan support appears in leading game engines such as Unity and Unreal, numerous game studios actively developing Vulkan titles, and a dozen Vulkan titles shipping including Doom, Quake, The Talos Principle and Dota 2. Vulkan drivers are also shipping from all of the major GPU manufacturers for desktop and mobile systems. Today, Khronos has released new Vulkan extensions for cross-platform access to Virtual Reality and multi-GPU functionality. Find out more about the Vulkan updates and extensions here.
