Load a .vtk model and rendering it with OpenGL

I am trying to create and augmented reality project that should be like this:
I have a real camera which is looking at a certain object (a brain for example) and it's tracked (in this way I know the pose of that camera). I should load a .vtk model of the same brain and create a virtual camera which should "view" the same as the real one.

The issue here is that I cannot find a way for loading this .vtk file. I'm a beginner in this field but this project is sth required by my university.

I hope someone could help me!

    Thank you

Your question doesn't really have anything to do with OpenGL directly.
