background/horizon

hiya,

currently i am programming an adventure/strategy/rpg game with isometric view (ie starcraft, diablo).
i dont want to fill the whole window with the map.
but this way, the background keeps black. so, what can i do? how would a background-bmp look like?
or perhaps some kind of rotating horizon, or something similar?

i am not sure i understand the question.
does it help if i say, just render to different viewports and fill the ones you don’t need for the map with whatever you want.
