Doom 3 OpenGL Problems

Heyyo

I played the Doom III demo, and when I wiped and reloaded my comp, it didn’t play anymore. I got the retail version and that didn’t work either. this is the error I got

My specs are: Toshiba 6100 laptop
Nvidia Geforce 420 32 MB
40 GB Hard Drive
1.6 GHZ Processor
Newest Video Card Drivers.

I don’t know why the demo or retail won’t play now when they did before.

God bless
thanks

When you install Windows, it doesn’t include the video card’s OpenGL drivers. MS is anti-OpenGL.
Plus you must update your video driver anyway.

Yes, download the latest drivers, but you say you are using a 32mb graphics card, I thought the minimum Doom 3 specs were a 64mb, and 128mb recommended  You are extrememly lucky if it is playable…

Why would he need new drivers if he has played it before and it worked. Did his old drivers get tired? I am having the same problem and all anybody can say is update your drivers. I have tried every driver available and nothing will let me play doom 3 even though six months ago I could play it no problem what the ****

He probably had some driver version that had the GL driver included. Who knows. I’m just telling him what is a likely solution. In his case, he can get it from Toshiba, the laptop maker or get himself some hacked driver that use the latest drivers from nvidia.

heathen, things don’t just work sometimes. You have to know about problems. Sorry, I can’t guess what the problem is unless you give details.

I have a different Doom3 problem, that may or may not be related.

I installed Doom3 to test it with my GeForce4 MX 440 card. I started by installing the newest DirectX and nvidia drivers, and then I installed the demo.

The demo kinda runs, but I can only get as far as the opening menu, and the refresh rate is about one frame ever 20 seconds, so obviously it’s not playable like that. Then I found out that my installation of Google Earth did the same thing. At least with that I was able to switch it over to DirectX, so I can use that again. So now I can’t use anything that uses OpenGL, and since I started having this problem I’ve reinstalled DirectX and the nvidia drivers twice, so installing the latest drivers is NOT the answer for me. There was something in the Doom3 install that changed something and it seems to have broken OpenGL, or at least how Win uses OpenGL. I couldn’t be more confused.

Looking at your report … it seems like its not your computer, but its the game itself

maybe a bad file in the demo?
reinstall demo + upgrade gfxdrivers
