    Are we expected to see EXT_direct_access_state or something similar promoted to the OpenGL core in future versions, or is there any change for the originally intended Object Model like state system?

    If you really want to support legacy hardware, you still need to write two renderers (or at least renderer backends) even for OpenGL. Consider for example, how Carmack implemented multiple renderer...

    Is there any idea how this would be implemented in Windows? Do we still have to use that old ChoosePixelFormat, SetPixelFormat, wglCreateContext etc.? I really hate the fact that I must use...
