    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

Infinity is well defined as 100 years in computer world :D
    100*(1-0.99999)*365*24 = less than 9 days

So : after or before sunday the 2009-03-15 ?

    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

Great, where can I download a GL 3.0 pdf spec without all the deprecated features now ?
Because currently it means "read the spec" - "skip to the end to check if this or that feature is deprecated"...

    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

I would not expect something fast from intel on the 3D front.
Repacking a bunch of old first generation Pentium CPUs and calling it a Larrabee GPU will not be enough. It will have to show real...

    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

It will depends if GL3 bring new features, whereas the initial idea was to only rewrite the API, and features being those of GL2.1

    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

"Ready for OpenGL3" does not means that it will contain GL3, but rather it can/will support it. Like any GL 2.1 card, as you pointed out...

    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

I have a way, not sure if it is reliable : use vsync and log each frame time, so you will see if some frames are slower than refresh rate.

    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

    You are probably right.

You mean, by lack of imagination ? Or because of the difficulty to efficiently use deeply parallel architectures ?

I remember Intel saying that since a decade ago,...

    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

3D labs did release a compiler frontend for GLSL, ok it was a long time ago :

I guess none of the other vendors used...

    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

This crappy beyond3D article misunderstood the "D3D9-class hardware" as API.
If you have first hand info, please share, otherwise it is not worth it :)

    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

    Your reference please ?
I am sure sure it was GL on all computer platforms, even if it was mentionned to possibility to go D3D on windows in the future.

    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

-NiCo- asked for a 3D3 SDK for Linux. While OpenGL will be faster on Linux most of the time, winelib can be useful for programmers that don't want to use OpenGL[/QUOTE]
It seemed to me that the...

    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

What a stupid idea. Wine will talk GL to the video card, why would you want to convert you app from GL to D3D so that it will be dynamically converted to GL ???

To me OpenGL 3.0 is a fine name....

The *MP* stuff is great for CPU intensive loops where each iteration is independant from the others. Everything else is quite a nightmare to program with both efficiency and correctness.

I think it is probably the other way round : Intel may be pushing for raytracing, on both GL and D3D

And that techarp article was crap anyway.

    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

I think that's a really bad idea if you want to release OpenGL 3 before 2017.
S3TC is patented. It would be impossible to implement OpenGL without a patent licence.
    Example: This means that Mesa...
