    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

By the way, I think we shouldn't focus our anger at the only ARB member who bothered to keep (limited, but better than none) contact with the community. ARB is group body, and certainly there are...

    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

I understand you're speaking about unspecified near future, but I'd like to look at it from the point of view of tools available today: Cuda/CTM. I think there is still a lot of GPU functionality of...

Just like GL 1.6 was renamed to 2.0, and the real 2.0 was scrapped.

    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

What's even more sad, majority of G80 extensions were EXT. Not vendor specific, as it often happened in the past. They were just laying there, ready to be picked up by Ati.

Whatever. If I knew this reference would attract this level of people's attention, and turn it away from what I was really trying to point out, I wouldn't have used it. Forget Intel and AMD. Korval's...

"a standard" already existed before D3D had been conceived.

    What are you talking about?

I don't see how the need for conceiving DirectSound, DirectInput, DirectPlay etc. implies the need for...

On the other hand, the morale has dropped so low during the period of silence, that any bone they throw us on SIGGRAPH will make us full of enthusiasm again. I mean, those of us who didn't leave :)

    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

I'll explain it to you using an analogy.

Imagine you have a task to do:
You want to shift your PC case by 20cm to the right.

Direct3D and Glide way: you apply gentle pressure to your PC case...

    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

4 out of 6 product lines in this generation don't support DX10.1 (Radeon 2000, GeForce 8000, 9000 and 200). There must be serious, technical cause for this. Is this related to SM4.1, WDDM 2 or both,...

    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

The fact that they are "skipping" DX10.1 (and thus, SM4.1) is probably due to the fact that Microsoft decided you can't get DX10.1 compliance without also supporting WDDM 2.1. Currently, only Radeons...
