    Since CUDA shaders go through the same driver optimizer as the GL/D3D shader optimizer, where is the difference?

    C++ is the universal "API". With it, you write code that pretty much everywhere.

    I think the nicest thing about CG is that it comes with an effect system. That way, it is much easier to organize shaders beyond the simple separete vertex/geometry/fragment shader files GLSL pretty...
