    Removing texture units wouldn't really be for direct speed optimizations, at least not in the same way bindless graphics does, rather to simplify scene-graphs etc. I guess I just saw a similarity...

    Pascal (Delphi+FreePascal at least) does all it's type safety checks at design-time, you can happily cast anything to anything else or use raw pointers/assembly if you desire to with no impact on...
