Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

Some time ago, it's just not as full as NV's one for obvious reasons. It's all part of their general SDK.
What is their latest OpenGL demo? It seemed like they haven't written anything...

Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

There is no OpenGL stuff. If it was GL, float3 would be vec3.
gl_ThreadID probably means Global ThreadID.

uniform int vertexIndex[K];
global float w[K][16];
in float3 V[K];
out float3...

Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

The problem I have with discussions like this is that there isn't a cold hard fact. Perhaps if Korval can get some people who chose DirectX back in 1997 here and tell us what problems they were...

Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

I don't think there is much of a mystery to it. The Quake 2 renderer is basicly glClear, glColor, glBindTexture, glBegin, glVertex, glTexCoord, glEnd. It's not going to take months to figure out how...

Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

If Carmack's code worked then I don't see why anyone else wouldn't be able to come along and write code that did a similar job.

Perhaps it has more to do with marketing rather than technological...

It depends on what you means by platform:
Wii, Nintendo DS, PlayStation 3, XBox 360, Linux, Apple, FreeBSD, Windows, various cellphones, various PDAs.

You probably are better off with something that is more for computing rather than graphics, like OpenCL or Cuda.

That will be offered. This is good since the driver won't store backups in RAM.
You can also tell it to keep a backup for people who want the old GL behavior.
I don't know if this was asked.

Question#Z What's going to happen to GLSL? Is it going to get an offline compiler. Try making 500 relatively complex shaders and compile and measure the time....

Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

That attribute thing is ancient history dude. I thought it was going to be added to Mesa as some extension. You would call glIndexOffsetEXT(integer) but I guess it died off. SO forget it already.

Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

AMD/ATI seems to have taken the "if it's not core, then we won't support it" route. It's a shame because it makes their product look like 6 year old GPU. If you can't hear it sing, then what's the...

Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

The URL thing sounds stupid if you ask me.

If they can change it so that we wouldn't need to analyze a string, it would be nice. Instead of glGetString(GL_EXTENSIONS), create a...

Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

Tough. Unlike other strings (like GL 2.x's version), the format will be very well specified. We don't want to create a situation like with GL 2.x where the major and minor version numbers were...

That's not a new revelation. These issues became known something like 6 years ago when GLSL was released.

Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

Bobvodka is confusing API and driver model. An API is just an interface and a typically API whether you are talking about Win32, libpng, OpenAL ... is always portable to any OS.

GL3 is a API cleanup and some small amount of performance and consistency. It won't make PC gaming better.

It matters.
I would like to know what is the problem or problems.

More importantly, is GL3 going to come? A simple yes or no would suffice.
