    Taking the space on the die into account, I would says, it is the other way round: they integrate a CPU into the GPU... :)

    But I haven't seen a convincing example of a 3D application/game based on C# and XNA... Are there any?

    They probably implemented a reference software rasterizer in parallel with their API specification and detected, that on current multi-core systems it was as fast as their hardware implementations.
