    this does not answer the question why gl_Position is not deprecated and gl_FragColor/Data is. all your arguments are valid either way (vertex, fragment domain).

    that is one point that bugged me during the BoF. why is gl_Position still there and gl_FragColor not? what is the difference? i have to declare the name of my fragment shader output before linking...
