    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

what vast difference? what statement is a fact?
it's safe to say that if you've worked with render clustering transparently then you're not getting anywhere near the performance you should be...

    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

what do you mean? are you talking about low level (gl command stream) clustering?
if that's the level you're working at, then you ain't never gonna get the performance I get with a proper clustered...

    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

clusters are not unique to linux y'know, babis!
all that is perfectly possible on MS Windows. I know, I do it.
so you were talking about linux....pray continue.

    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

i'd always assumed its because direct3d has no quad buffered stereo and no swap groups/genlocking. The entire Quadro line of cards would be impossible if it weren't for OpenGL. As I've said before,...

    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

You should consider yourself lucky you get linux drivers at all. Linux drivers should be at the very bottom of their list of priorities. As you're probably aware, very few people actually use linux....

    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

no binary blobs, no index offsets.....I think it's fair to say the ARB don't give a rats arse about the OpenGL community as a whole - just the small number of incompetent companies that struck it...

august the 11th 2008. The day Microsoft won the 3d API battle.
    How f ucking depressing.
I feel like I've been left to clean up after a party that got out of control. Scraping vomit off the dvd...

    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

the list of things to be covered in GL3 is too complete for just a shed load of extension-to-core promotions. I remain optimistic this is the re-write we want.

meanwhile, all us other poor buggers with no choice but to stick with the professional-level features only offered by GL are well and truly shafted.

    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

i don't see how this could be economically the right thing to do. It would be cheaper to knock up an API that maps well onto D3d10, rather than continue to hack around with a decades old, bloated API...

    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

even in the old days of software renderers when we had complete access to the device doing the drawing (the CPU), we all used (and wrote) API's to abstract the details. Such as the lovely BGI from...

So the job was given to the inexperienced fresh graduates, I take it? :)
I suppose if it hasn't been discussed at any ARB meetings, all is well.

one of the main reasons for the original GL3 design was to make it easier to write stable drivers, so theoretically they should be rock solid.
