    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

That's something that needs to be fixed. Textures should be bound to shaders, not texture units. [/QUOTE]

I seem to recall that being part of Longs Peak as well you know...

    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

Erm, I find it vaguely unsettling that your first example includes "glEnable(GL_TEXTURE_2D);", something which those of us who have been using shaders haven't done for some time now and are treating...

    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

I moved the printf before the timer start, but it didn't make any difference since it was done the same way for both functions.

But you're right, now the timing results have more reference value....

    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

No, because double is also just "crippled" in AMD's hardware.

In games it's all about the speed vs accuracy tradeoff; more speed at the cost of accuracy is acceptable and losing 1/4 of your...

That benchmark looks like junk, but aside from that current GPU hardware has very little double support (iirc the GTX series can do double in hardware at around 1/4 the speed of a floating point...

    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

Yes, well, having lived through the OpenGL2.0 farce and now the epic fail which is GL3.0 (and the waste which was the last two years) I feel I've a right to be a little pissed, more so when the...

You don't get it do you; we gave you feed back on the idea and then without bothering to even let us know there was going to be a change you dump this.. thing.. on us.

Now you expect us to turn...

And as I recall there was ALWAYS plans to allow a crossover of GL2.x and Longs Peak features via the same context for just this sort of thing so companies could migrate. I guess the plans weren't...

Except you are already dropping speed as the hardware drifts away from the API (the D3D10 model, what GL3.0 looked like before this... thing... is closer) and reliable drivers are harder to write...

I was at GameFest2008 in London last wednesday, I've seen whats coming with DX11 and even the DX10/10.1 cards get an improvement with free thread functions for resource creation and secondary...

Honestly Rob, give us a reason to bother/care?

Well then, if this all comes to pass I'll be finally off then. Having used D3D10 and experianced what a clean API can do I don't want to go back to the mess which is OpenGL. GL3.0 with a nice clean...

From what I've seen of it ES still has too much legacy with GL2.x and the way it does things; with the evolution of the mobile platform even ES might need a GL3.0 style revamp sooner rather than...

    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

I'd be very VERY surprised if that was the case, the last Valve hardware survey shows a combined total of 8800, 8600, 8500, 8400 to be around 310,000 and the 8600M and 8400M to be around 26,000....
