    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

I didn't mean to imply that HLSL supports it either. My point is that the function is in the spec and that nowhere does the latter mention that (hardware) support for this function is somehow...

    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

It is also the case for quite a few other OpenGL features. For instance, when I started with GLSL using the Orange Book and the spec, I naively thought that the noise() methods were implemented in...

    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

What you propose is exactly what we had to do. Some textures are big and are continuously updated (terrain) and some pop up semi-randomly with differing texture sizes and types. We have to waste a...

    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

Ok sure, but my whole problem is that textures are loaded from disk all the time, with varying formats. I can't upload them all at once when I load a level like in a game. What you propose will...

    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

I am making a 3D engine for aircraft simulators to train pilots. To be certifiable, you have to stay at 60hz all the time. We are often fighting against optimizations/assumptions made for games that...

    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

In this case, I am talking about a sudden spike in the frame time (drop in frame rate). I need to be able to guarantee a consistent 60hz. No drops are acceptable, not even for a frame. Droping...

    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

I strongly disagree with this statement. Only the application, with its knowledge of how it will use resources can effectively make appropriate decisions as to what to prioritize. I do agree that...

    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

    Question #X
What will OGL3 offer in terms of memory management?

I am referring to managing texture memory and VBO memory. Currently, there is no way to "force" a texture or VBO in VRAM and let...

    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

Really? Which ones particularly? This could explain some performance glitches I encounter sometimes. Is there any documentation/release notes/anything explaining this in more details?

    Thanks in...

    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

NVidia/ATI/Intel are all part of the group working of the OpenGL 3.0 spec (see http://www.khronos.org/members/promoters ) They already know what is going on.

@ Khronos_webmaster : Where are you in Montreal? Maybe I could swing by and have some questions answered? ;)

    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

AMD/ATI has not released 3D programming specifications. But they are still working on it with sample code. Heard Intel did release its GPUs documentation with 3D included and there is already working...
