    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

add it to the list... but hey, that would break old code! so how high is the possibility to fix a bad decission here?

Because he's showing how it works for the old fixed-function pipeline.[/QUOTE]
yeah, but even with shaders we have to bind textures to a certain texture unit (urgh, cg had the better idea here).

    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

with the 'streamlined' GL3.x all the stacks are gone and this is no issue anymore as you can do it very easy while not worrying about such things as matrix stack depths.

    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

i agree this is much nicer, and had to happen much earlier, but your example shows in my opinion some missing consistency.

    why not something like this:

    glBindTextureIndexed(GL_TEXTURE_2D, 3,...

    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

if you take a close look at cude, there is not much that sets it appart from todays shaders (my personal opinion). extend the shaders to access shared resources (shared on chip memory) and scatter...

don't forget GL3 is more like D3D9 than D3D10, first Mnt. Evans was/is supposed to be the D3D10 counterpart.

    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

the problem is that Carmack more than once said that D3D is an option for him and how he is happy with the xbox sdk etc.. he actually could make it impossible for OpenGL to get the foot back into the...

    Re: OpenGL 3 Updates

this too is what interests me the most. i also think that framebuffer creation and handling should be passed to the gl and only the result blitted onto the OS surface.

    great idea! :D
