Take a look at its sources. Go to http://www.mesa3d.org and download GLU source code. Inside, in the project.c file is gluLookAt source code.

I use gluLookAt() with a fly-through code...I did it in Java/JOGL but the OpenGL code is readable if you are interested...here is the link to the post I originally made about it:

? View Matrix: 1st person to 3rd person ? (http://www.opengl.org/discussion_boards/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=242100#Post242100)

Also, if you want a more detailed description and code for my fly-through you can go to this site that has the files attached: JOGL - FPS and Fly Through Code (http://www.javagaming.org/index.php/topic,18951.0.html)

In nVidia's SDK (version 9 and 10) there is nv_math.cpp. In that file, look_at is implemented and works exactly as OpenGL requires (data layout of matrices).
