Moving from 2D to 3D

I have developed a sports game over the last 9 years and am looking for some advice on the best way forward in moving from a 2D game into the 3D world.

The game is based on Poser characters exported into multiple graphics which are then used as sprites under SpriteWorld. The game is written in C and runs under Carbon.

I would obviously like to keep using the Poser characters and now want to get into the OpenGL world. My question is therefore what is the best replacement of SpriteWorld to help me quickly bring out an updated 3D game. I don’t sell many copies so buying a full blown commercial package is out of the question.

I have seen the SDK’s listed on OpenGL but at the moment they are just names! All comments and suggestions appreciated.
