Erratic screen with blender3d

Greetings there,
i am having erratc screen behaviour with blender3d, it installs ok initially and starts ok, but after clicking the main screen it gives erratic lines etc.
here’s the link to the screen shots:
ok: http://www.geocities.com/rohitsz/logs/blender_OK_FC5.png
not_ok: http://www.geocities.com/rohitsz/logs/blender_NOT_OK_FC5.png

details of the driver are as follows:
Graphics card: ‎Radeon VE/7000 QY (AGP/PCI)
RAM:256MB

processor:Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.00GHz
kernel: ‎2.6.15-1.2054_FC5

please help me what i need to do to overcome this problem.

thanks,
rohit

What version of Blender do you use, also what version of X ? Do you use proprietary drivers ? What version ?

Is it only blender that gives you such results ?

To my point of view, and from what I have, this more seems to be a blender bug (but I’m most of the time wrong …)

Hi,

I’m not an expert, but I’d do 2 things. First, Blender has (in the past at least) had problems with older ATI drivers. Make sure you have the latest drivers. Second, I’d go check out one of the main blender discussion boards. The developer board can be found at http://www.blender.org/forum/ or at the users’ forum at http://blenderartists.org/forum/.

Very helpful people can be found at both places, but the developer board is more about bug fixes and the user board is more about user problems (don’t know if this is a bug or a problem that’s why I’m giving you both).

Good luck!

Greetings there,

  1. the blender version is 2.42
  2. X version is X11R6
  3. i use opengl python drivers
4)yes, only blender gives me these results.

I think i have an embedded ATI graphics card, is there a way to upgrade in the cheapest way?

thanks,
rohit.

ATI drivers are somewhat a disaster to install under Linux. Check this forum for more information, I simply can’t help you there.

Blender does not use python GL but default GL libraries.

what glxinfo says ?

i also upgraded the system to xorg-x11-drv-ati to latest version and also updated the kernel also.

And now the monitor simply turns off after couple of minutes on with blender’s erratic screen…

what next can i do?

thanks,
rohit.

The only bad thing from your glxinfo is that your glx server version (1.2) is older than your client (1.4). I already have seen that on those forums but I can’t remember where neither when. I just can guess that the server should be the same version.

From what I read it seems you installed the free ATI drivers. Am I right ?

Try other GL programs (like enemy territory game which is free). If the problem only occurs on blender, I guess the best solution would be to check the blender forums as loos said.

Greetings there,

i have very little knowledge about opengl.

  1. how can i upgrade the server glx?
i think i have the free ATI drivers,as i have seen the link at ati about their properietary driver but given 55M,i have not downloaded them yet.
Also i have read their site, i doubt that my X version is not supported, i might need to upgrade that also.
So the system is on free drivers only.

also, i have posted a bug report at blender here: http://projects.blender.org/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=5072&group_id=9&atid=125

So lets see if something happens.

thanks,
rohit.

You cannot only upgrade the glx server. They all come from the same package. AFAIK, this generally comes from an improper installation or a forget to erase an old existing GL installation.
