glXQueryVersion

I am a student just starting to use openGL under Linux 7.1. It failed when I used glXQueryVersion( ). The manule says the function is to discover which version of GLX. But I do not know how to check, or make it work.
Thanks

I think the following example is from Mark Kilgard’s book.
