The next driver release is suppose to have the fragment program extension (weather ATI or ARB, or maybe both I don’t know).

Why does it say that it only supports 8 textures? Do they plan on hiding this feature until their next driver release?

There’s a small inconstancy with the spec there, the card CAN sample up to 16 textures but it only has 8 texture coords to adress them (as per D3D 9 specs). I believe this only applies to the ATI_fragment_program extension, otherwise standard multitexturing is limited to 8 textures (IMO this isn’t that big of a deal).
8 textures makes a lot of sense on the 9700 as states above. What makes less sense is that the NV30 will only expose 4 textures on the standard multitexture/register combiner pipeline.
Well I guess the 2.3 drivers didn’t include it afterall… Wonder what the hold up is.
