OFF-TOPIC: Apple Multi-Touch Interaction Video

I just had to share this with you all.
How promising does this look?

I expect OpenGL is behind the graphics, so it’s not dramatically off-topic.

Now that really is stunning. It’s like the DS gone mad.

While we’re on the subject of links, here’s a very interesting link you might be interested in:-
It’s an interview with the developers of “Shadow Of The Colossus”, which is one of the best looking games of recent times:-

hey its the beatles
one thing i dont understand is this shot
http://www.dyingduck.com/sotc/3dwa19.jpg
decription is
“This is done by finding the difference between the bone positions in this frame and the previous frame, and forming a polygon from it. It applies the character image of the current frame as a texture for it.”
how would i go about this?, in 2d easy but 3d?

also it looks like 2 technqiues in this shot the sword + the arm look great (i assume with the polygon stretching?) but the sword handle looks like accumulated frames

idea just came to me in bath, simply extrude the vertiecs that have a negative dotproduct with the movement vector.
possibly mult the shading/diffuse with a 1d alpha texture

is that racist? I don’t know for sure, as I don’t get out much these days.

racist? i was talking about the mop haircuts

on further thought + drawing on a piece of paper my dot(normal, movement) is not gonna work

Zed: looking at the left low leg on this shot http://www.dyingduck.com/sotc/3dwa18.jpg it seems that the extruded vertices are manually predefined on the outer edge.

While we are at sharing techniques, I recently saw this :
http://www.trackmania-lejeu.com/sunrise/images/img/screens/big/Tmn04.jpg

It the best realtime grass I’ve ever seen running on my PC : dense, pretty fast, receive realtime shadowing, plus it is dynamicaly flattened by tires as you go over it.
(but not moving, and only present on flat ground)

The game is downloadable from here :
http://www.trackmanianations.com
(and I have a lot of fun playing online  )

I think I found how the ‘flattening’ and ‘shadowing’ can be done, but still not sure about the grass quad itself. Any ideas ? Other great grass techniques ?

Really cool grass.
zed, seriously, when have you seen a japenese man with any other style of haircut? That’s not a generalisation, that’s an observable fact.

@zed, maybe you didn’t mean anything derogatory but you can’t go around caricaturing racial features with offensive phrases in this forum.

Don’t do it again, thanks.
