Pretty much all the drivers I tried for the GeForce 6800 don't allow me to set anti-aliasing higher than 4x (or 8x with DirectX). Considering the power of that card, that seems unsufficient. Anyhow, it is for my application.

I heard there was a driver in the past allowing to set higher AA. Do you know of a reason to limit the AA to 4x or a way to increase it?

The maximum amount of multisamples the 6800 can do is 4 (limited by hardware.) You can use super-sampling at up to 8X (render at higher resolution, downsample to regular resolution.) but this is much much slower than multi-sampling.
