an arrow on a curved surface

Hi,

I have a 2-D arrow as shown below:

.

Is it there an easy way to render such an arrow wrapping itself around a cylinder, i.e rendering an arrow coincident to a curved surface? Maybe I can decompose it into many small polygons. But I am looking for a solution as easy as drawing a quadric sphere or a quadric disk, say. Please advise. Thanks.

Ok this seems too easy so it’s probably not what you’re looking for. How about making a texture of an arrow and just use texture mapping to paste the arrow on the surface?
