scene speed up

I was wondering how I can speed my rendering up. I have double buffering enabled. What I am wondering about is my scene. I am working on a first person walkthrough world right now. it is reminiscent of Doom at the moment. All the scenery is preloaded and right now I put it in a list and call it everytime I render. I was wondering if there was anything else I can do to speed this process up? Thank youanyone for your help.
