Creating Tubes

I am new to openGL but have started working on a project which is a 3D representation of tubes running through a block. I am trying to look at different ways of creating tubes.
I want to find out about a sweep method??. Can anyone give me hints on this? Or a good web page were i can look at examples of this kind?

Thanks mikael this site is a great help. But Like i said i am a begginer to all this and am still struggling to get the polyline methods working. By any chance has anyone know of any examples of this type of coding? Any tubes using the Gle library and sweep method?
