I’m trying to buy a laptop under $3000 that would be good for OpenGL. If you have any recommendations, please help me.

You only have to think about good graphics card (in that laptot) which supports most of OpenGL extensions and has very high performance. Try to search something with nVidia GeForce FX chipset or ATI Radeon 9800.

I am also interested in a laptop with a good graphics chip, but there seems to be a lack of support in terms of linux.

I guess that the nvidia mobile chips run under linux just as they do in desktop computers, but what’s with ati? does anyone have experiences with that? because the ati chips are better (afaik) and more common in laptops, i would find that quite interesting.
