I want to try to use dot3 bumpmapping and am having trouble to do so. I found a tutorial which seemed nice at first but it was without comments and I did not like the way the light was handled (I could not move it, which is very important for me). I get pointed to nvidia all the time, but there I need the effects-browser. Is it worth it?
I would rather like to look at an simple program than on a dll.

I don’t have any tutorial, but I have several demos with source using dot3 bumpmapping. Maybe one of them can help you?
