What kind of texture filters are there and how to use/implement them?

to set the filter (min and mag are the 2 way to filter)
glTexParameteri(GL_TEXTURE_2D, GL_TEXTURE_MAG_FILTER, GL_NEAREST);
glTexParameteri(GL_TEXTURE_2D, GL_TEXTURE_MIN_FILTER, GL_NEAREST);

the filters available :
