display lists not working

I created a simple display list, something like…

display_list[DL_STARS] = glGenLists(1);

glNewList(display_list[DL_STARS],GL_COMPILE);
draw_stars();
glEndList();

where draw_stars is something along the lines
of…
glBegin(GL_POINTS);
glVertex2f(blah, blah);

glEnd();

Okay, that seems to be fine, right? The
problem is, when I call the list, using

glCallList(display_list[DL_STARS]);

nothing gets displayed. This is pretty
annoying. please help!
