Translate Question

I'm sure this is a stupid question, but i have a problem that i just can't fix. I am very new to all this. everything is fine if a translate -1.0z, but if i do any more, nothing appears. Please help.

Maybe it is ending up behind you or maybe it is too close or far away and so lies outside the clipping planes. Can you be more specific at what you a doing or want to do, any code?
