Just anwser my damn question!

For the love of god just answer whether you know or not! I guess your too busy discussing opengl subsystem and other in-depth crap to mess with something simpler.

You would also be pissed if you had 10-20 FPS is openGL down from 100!! Its not that I am spoiled with 100fps, its the fact that something HUGE is wrong with my setup and I want to fix it.

Win 2K Pro
ATI Radeon 64mb DDR
Pentium 3 1Ghz
I am having severe OpenGl slow downs in all of my Games (Tribes 2, Halflife, ect). For some reason, ever since I installed DirectX 8.1 and Switched from an outdated Ati driver to the new presupported version (5.13.1.6043) with full OpenGL support. I am getting 70-90 less FPS (down from 100fps) in Halflife and Tribes 2 is slowing to less than 1 fps at times. Direct 3d works better, but not the same as OpenGL did before these modifications. I have tried installing older drivers and an older version of directx (after surgically removing it with directx buster), neither work. I did install my newer drivers correctly by uninstalling them beforehand. Also, I have downloaded Rage3d Tweak and have tried optimizing for performance and factory defaulting. Nothing works to get my FPS back up to 100. HOWEVER… Note this unusual fact. In Halflife when a weapon model is not displayed I get my FPS back up to 100. What the hell is going on???

the reson why nobody is answering is probably because they cant help. The only thing i can think of is that maybe you contracted a strange virus when downloading your driver but this is very unlikely.

I highly doubt this, but it may be because Win 2K isn’t exactly the best OS for gaming. It is designed specifically for networking. My friend just recently got rid of it because it was giving him trouble with games such as Half Life and RTCW.

Can help you with my XP/OpenGL Fix – might work w/Win2k.

I found resource conflicts with EVERY XP (NVidia) driver upgrade. So I switched BIOS to Plug-&-Play, THEN executed the install off the dl icon. Perfect! OpenGL tabs appeared under advanced display settings and the tweaks I can do give near photo quality. No heat from the system, even at 120 Hrz.

So the new drivers work. But not if you forget that P & P is no longer the preferred settting in your BIOS. Change it for this driver update only. Otherwise, XP (Maybe Win2k also) falls back to its native video driver before you have a chance to do your tweaks.

Good Luck! UD

Your problem is more complicated then you think and that’s why nobody can answer you exactely. You dont have a virus dont warry.
The problem is with your operating system.
You have to options here.
1.Either change your os to win98 and everything will work perfectly
2.Or uninstall and reinstall win2000 after you’ve deleted in completly from your hdd. After that make a clean install with the drivers you want and only thoes. At first don’t try to install any tweaks. This are the onces that damaged your system, that or the new directx8.1.it has been known to have a lot of problems so if you get problems again after installing win and dx8.1 try uninstalling and reinstalling dx8.0a. Then and only the try to use your tweaks.
