Which is faster?

Which video card is faster in OpenGL
Matrox G400 $95.00
Voodoo3 3000 $99.00

or if you have a better card in mind please speak up

this card would be going in an AMD k6-3 450 computer

TIA

For opengl, it definitly the Matrox : reason is simple,

the voodoo chip set doesn’t have a full Opengl Driver.

Yes if you want a card for Games and somethings kind of real, go for the Matrox it has full OpenGL, my self i have an Oxygen VX1 and it works very good on 3d aplications made in OpenGL.
My advice is check the specification of all your choices, and see which satisfies your needs.

Actually, the Voodoo3 does have a full OpenGL driver of passable quality. Limitations of the chipset aside (stencil and alpha buffers will always be emulated and therefore incredibly slow), it’s quite usable.

How about voodoo2? Does this have a full OpenGL driver?

Nope.

Unless you have a very new motherboard it is likely that it will not be able to supply the corect voltage to the AGP port for cards such as the voodoo 3 and G400, or other voltage hungry graphics cards. This is a problem with almost all socket 7 mobo’s for both the K6-2 and the K6-3. The main problem with this is that performance is quite badly degraded.

If you want to play games go for the V3, otherwise go for the G400.
