ATI RADEON 9800 Pro OPEN GL wont work!

Hello All.

I have for mnay months been trying to make my stupid system work. I’ve spent so much money on it, and yet it still wont play what it was built for.

I can run Direct 3d games completely fine on maximum settings with no problem.

I have a pentium 4 2.4ghz 800FSB
512MB Corsair 3500 Memory
256MB ATI RADEON 9800 Pro
A bit (infamous) IS7-G mobo

Running XP pro.
Direct X 9a
latest catalyst driver of 3.9
and even installed the latest bios.

Sounds like some kick ass machine right ? wrong.

It doesnt play any openGL game at all, and until recently I am now able to copy and paste the stupid error message opengl gives.

This error message fromes from Jedi Academy.
HOwever, I cant even run Jedi Knight 2, Elite Force 1 and 2, anything thats openGL.

here it is:

GLW_StartOpenGL() - could not load OpenGL subsystem

I dont know why it doesnt work.
Please help! Thanks for any suggestions.

A friend suggested that I bump up the voltage on my graphics card to 1.7v , unfortunately, the bios will only let me go up to 1.65v (on the latest revision aswell!!)

Thanks in Advance

3.9 dirvers do not work, roll back to 3.7.

I have tried 3.6, 3.7 3.9 catalyst drivers

I suggest you disable the ht feature. Configure your machine to run as basic as possible. Get OpenGL to run and then turn up the cmos options 1 by 1

You might also need to download the latest inf driver for you mb

Thanks for the replies.

I have already installed the latest chipset drivers. The ones on the a-bit website are actually dated, I tried those and it didnt make any difference. I’ve always downloaded newer ones from the Intel site.

Unfortunately, they didnt work either.

My machine is pretty much set at basic already, because of the RAM i am using, its set on really slow settings anywyas.

everything else is default.

I shall try and see if I can do anything else. I was wondering whether a reinstall of windows would make any difference?

or disabling the on-board sound card?

I have written to ATI ( about 2 months ago) but I have received no response.

Just rechecked my system.

I have installed a full display package from ELSA v7.95 , drivers dated 29/11/03 i.e 3.9 catalyst drivers.

Couldnt seem to find the disable option for sound card in bios.

Tested DXdiag - Direct X 9.0b - every test came out successful.

Tried Jedi Academy - played until end of intro, then crashed.

hi guys … well after a much time of 6 months i finally got my computer to run opengl. I bought myself a new harddrive and did a brand new install on winxp prof. just installed the latest version of , chipset, and audio drivers .

but used the origianl catalyst 3.4 drivers that came with it. Havent installed the Service pack 1 yet.

anywyas, i ran jedi academy, and omg, it f^&$^$% worked !! It works ! !

So now I can run this game, havent tried any others yet. but I am happy.
