opengl not working on xp

im getting an error message when i try to open medal of honor the game. i recently reformated and put xp on so i figured its not compatable with my video card and need alittle help, possibly an update or something like that. im using nvidia tnt2, pretty old but i like it.

You probably just need new drivers from www.nvidia.com

i tried that already twice but no luck

Have you tried the MoH support forums?

What is your error?

And do you have a valid copy?

i guess i can try the mohaa forums but there not very active plus noone knows **** around there.

this is happens when the screen minimizes and the console pops up. GLW_StartOpenGL() - could not load opengl subsystem

my copy is valid

Howcome you don’t say which nvidia driver you have?
This is pretty important.

Make sure all virus checkers are off, and install the drivers and reboot.

After, there is a tool called GLinfo that will give information about your video driver and opengl

http://www.delphi3d.net/hardware/index.php

When you run it, what does it say on the first page?

If you see the word Microsoft anywhere, then there is a problem and report back.

What if it does say
vendor:microsoft
what do i do?
I am running a voodoo 4

To get back to the initial question of MoH not working, Microsoft has the problem listed in there knowledge base. ID 326529

So you’re not the only one with the problem.
According to MS, the answer can be found also on Electronic Arts website.

If you’re using nvidia, I’d recommend using win xp’s version of the driver through windows update for now as I’ve had version 6177 wreaking havoc with some of my games

I don’t know what the current situation for voodoo is but you can visit

http://www.voodoofiles.com/

and

this page explains stuff

Installing the drivers should get you hardware OpenGL 1.1 support according to

when i run it, it says…

Driver verson : Unknown
Vendor : Microsoft Coorperation
Renderer : GDI Generic
OpenGL verson : 1.1.0

In your windows system folder, which might be on

C:\Windows\System32

search for a file that starts with nvogl…
and it has a DLL extension

Run regedit, look under

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ WINDOWS NT \ CurrentVersion \ OpenGLDrivers

look around there and the folders under it to see if the same file name appears.

This is nvidia’s GL hardware support file.

The file iteself should be a few megabytes large.

i found the file i think, it started with nv but not nvopen… heres a pic… http://www.uploadyourimages.com/view/508732screenshotnv4.jpg

the file also wasnt in the opengl folder, i took antoher screenshot… http://www.uploadyourimages.com/view/514104screenshotopengl.jpg

is it a good thing or bad thing its not there?

Congrats, there is the problem.

The correct file name should be nvoglnt.dll
Besides this file that begins with “nv”, there should be several other files when the drivers are installed correctly. Maybe 10 others, all starting with nv

Are you sure you are logging on as administrator?
You need to do this to install drivers and make system changes.

PS: also make sure that are files are visible

i didnt have show all files on but it didnt change anything.

im am administrator of the computer so i dont understand why it didnt install right but ill try again.

Maybe its not the right driver i need? heres what i downloaded and installed.
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_61.77

I think it is.

On the previous page

http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp

it says “geforce and TNT2” in the second column, so it is suppose to work on your card I’m assuming.
On the third column, you should choose Windows XP/2000

When you install the drivers, you don’t see a progress bar that says copying files, then it brings another dialog that says “you must restart windows”?

Usually, this works, otherwise there is something seriously wrong.

You should also check in the control panel->systems to see what WinXP identifies your card as.

i installed it the same as before and now its working…thx for the help

Glad to see it’s working and your welcome.

I have the same problem.
Do I need to uninstal the current driver before instaling the TNT… driver.
If yes tell me how.

I got nvidia GE force 2 (old) and i just put my computer to factory setting. when i play CZ it says that it cannot support OPENGL or D3D and will play in software mode.

what do i do?

I also want to know how to install this new OpenGL i downloaded in a zip file.
