Quake 3 Arena

i recently dl and installed the quake 3 arena point release patch from file planet and now whenever i play i cant connect to the multiplayer server and when im in a game everything is grey. when i shoot, the pullet looks like a grey piece of paper, when i get hit, everything goes grey for a second, when i shoot a rocket, the stream is made of grey squares, how do i fiz this?
