OpenGL in gnome under Debian Linux

I have an ATI Radeon 7000 video card with 64MB of RAM. I’m running Debian Linux kernel 2.4.20. I believe I have my video card drivers installed properly, and openGL appears to be working somewhat because I can run games which require openGL, but the games run incredibly slow. Has anyone every seen this before or know a fix for it?

Thanks,

it seems you use MESA
it support all OpenGL extensions
but it is a software renderer
you must download your drivers from
your card manufactorer.
but ATI does not have linux OpenGL drivers yet
You can wait for DRI (http://dri.sourceforge.net/)
which supports many cards (but not yours yet)

or buy Nvidia which has much more faster drivers for Linux (faster than windows drivers)
