The Linux OpenGL stack along with the upstream OpenGL specification has been evolving at a fast pace in recent years. There was recently some discussion within the Khronos camp for updating the guide for how to implement OpenGL support on Linux and it’s been decided it will be talked about next week at XDC2012. To get the ball rolling for planning out a new Linux OpenGL ABI, NVIDIA has published a proposal.

Remograph, providers of products and services for the computer graphics, visual simulation and 3D modeling markets, announced the release of Remo 3D v2.3. Remo 3D is an effective OpenGL-based tool for creating and modifying 3D models intended for realtime visualization. The primary file format is OpenFlight. Remo 3D is currently available for Microsoft Windows 7/Vista/XP/2000 and Linux. This new version 2.3 of Remo 3D brings support for importing of ESRI Shape attributes, some new script functions and other various fixes. NVIDIA announced today that its new Quadro K5000 GPU will be available on Apple Mac Pro. Based on Nvidia’s internal tests, the Kepler architecture enables the Quadro K5000 GPU for Mac to run key content-creation applications up to twice as fast at lower power than the Fermi-based Quadro 4000 for Mac, while the new chips also provide support for OpenGL and OpenCL.

An update for Drishti (version 2.1.0) is now available for download at the google code site. This volume exploration and presentation tool runs on GPUs having OpenGL 2.0 or higher capability. Drishti-2.1.0 includes bug fixes and many newer additions such as morphological/mask buffer operations, carving and painting on volumes, coloured mesh generation based on transfer function opacity, MetaImage import/export and much more. Drishti allows scientists to visualize, explore and present volumetric datasets. Drishti helpvideos are now available on youtube. More help videos will be added in coming days.
OGLplus 0.19.0 released

OGLplus is an open-source header-only library which implements a thin object-oriented facade over the OpenGL (version 3 and higher) C-language API. It provides wrappers which automate resource management and make the use of OpenGL in C++ safer and easier. This version brings experimental support for several GL 4.3. features (compute shader dispatching, debug output, program interface), adds two new examples, has improved build system, fixes several bugs and more.
