Catalyst 9.2 supports three new OpenGL extensions

Catalyst 9.2 was released with support for three new OpenGL extensions: GL_EXT_bindable_uniform, GL_EXT_texture_shared_exponent, WGL_AMDX_gpu_association. Catalyst 9.2 supports OpenGL 3.0 and fixes the glGetString(GL_VERSION) bug when an OpenGL 3.0 context is used. FurMark 1.6.0 runs successfully with Catalyst 9.2.

Wild Pockets 3D web engine in open beta

The Wild Pockets 3D web engine, an embedded web plugin that supports games and other 3D web content, has entered public beta. Wild Pockets uses OpenGL for its rendering engine and leverages the GLSL language internally for creation of shaders to support advanced lighting features (per-pixel lighting, normal maps, and gloss maps). Users can sign up for the public beta on the Wild Pockets website. The plugin is currently only Windows, but a Mac version is supposed to be out soon, according to the Wild Pockets website.

Linderdaum Engine adds GPU accelerated direct volume rendering

Linderdaum Engine was updated to version 0.5.89. It utilizes OpenGL 2.1 and GLSL to do a real-time direct volume rendering using GPU accelerated raycasting. Different rendering modes are supported including isosurface rendering, opacity accumulation and MIP.

Version 3.0 of the ACCESS Linux Platform has been unveiled at the Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona. The new version offers a richer user interface and compliance with LiMo. ACCESS has unveiled the next major version of its Linux-based mobile software platform. The ACCESS Linux Platform (ALP) 3.0 brings a significant user interface overhaul with support for rich visual effects. It also boosts interoperability by delivering LiMo compliance. ALP’s new user interface takes advantage of these next-generation mobile hardware capabilities and OpenGL ES to facilitate richer interaction.

Nvidia Releases New WHQL GeForce Driver 182.06 with full support for OpenGL 3.0

NVIDIA releases an improved version of their proprietary video driver for the Linux, FreeBSD and Solaris operating systems. The new version, Nvidia 180.29, offers full OpenGL 3.0 support for all GeForce 8 and newer graphics cards. The new version offers full OpenGL 3.0 support for all GeForce 8 and newer graphics cards and provides support for the the GeForce 9300 GE and Quadro NVS 420 GPU’s.

OpenGL-based 3D Excel add-in AsdGraph3D version 1.5 is entering its beta stage.The add-in lets you easily create 3D graphs in Excel with the aid of OpenGL. The new version adds a substantial usability enhancement that allows user to easily select Excel cell ranges with mouse for use with AsdGraph3D (as X, Y, Z data ranges). Selected X, Y and Z cell ranges do not have to be of same dimension or size (they will be intelligently auto-resized!). Version 1.5 Beta also adds the support for pivot-table like format. AsdGraph3D is a Windows only add-in.

gDEBugger V4.5 Adds the ability to view Texture Mipmap levels and Texture Arrays

The new gDEBugger V4.5 adds the ability to view texture mipmap levels. Each texture mipmap level’s parameters and data (as an image or raw data) can be displayed in the gDEBugger Texture and Buffers viewer. Browse the different mipmap levels using the Texture Mipmap Level slider. gDEBugger V4.5 further introduces support of 1D and 2D texture arrays. The new Textures and Buffers viewer Texture Layer slider enables viewing the contents of different texture layers. This version also introduces notable performance and stability improvements. gDEBugger, an OpenGL and OpenGL ES debugger and profiler, traces application activity on top of the OpenGL API, lets programmers see what is happening within the graphic system implementation to find bugs and optimize OpenGL application performance. gDEBugger runs on Windows and Linux operating systems, and is currently in Beta phase on Mac OS X.

GPU ShaderAnalyzer (GSA for short, pronounced Gee-Zah) is a tool for analyzing the performance of pixel and vertex shaders on ATI Radeon graphics cards. It gives you accurate performance estimates for your shaders and even allows you to view disassembly of the generated hardware shader. GPU ShaderAnalyzer can be used as a GUI tool for interactive tuning of your shaders or in command line mode to generate detailed reports. It supports DirectX9, DirectX10 & OpenGL.

GLee 5.4 cross-platform extension loading library for OpenGL released

GLee (GL Easy Extension library) is a free cross-platform extension loading library for OpenGL. It provides seamless support for OpenGL functions up to version 3.0 and 399 extensions. The latest version adds support for 5 new extensions, bringing the total to 399. This version also includes a number of fixes for recent NVIDIA extensions.

AMD OpenCL parallel computing functionality demo from Siggraph Asia 2008

OpenCL is the new vendor-independent standard designed to extract high performance parallel computing out of GPUs, DSPs and multi-core CPUs. Basically the idea is that you can write your core computational code in OpenCL and voila! - your code scales to whatever processors are available. The “Powdertoy” particle & fluid simulation app shows how OpenCL can extract high performance parallel computing out of multi-core CPUs.  Initially the demo only uses one core of a Dragon-based system (quad-core Phenom II).  As the additional cores are enabled the simulation compute time is cut in half!

Phelios and EMV Team Up to Release Pixie using PTK Game OpenGL game engine

Phelios (creators of the PTK Game Engine based on OpenGL ) and EMV Software (of Warblade fame), have collaborated on a new game called, Pixie. Pixie, a game that is reminiscent of vintage arcade games met with a modern twist, has just been released for both Mac and PC platforms. Pixie was created with the PTK Game Engine based on OpenGL.
