Since my laptop graphics card sucks, I’m thinking about buying a graphics card for my desktop computer for use with graphics programming. My family had this desktop put together by a local computer shop. It appears to have either an AGP (or a low profile AGP) slot on the inside but I’m not exactly sure what they look like. Since the computer was put together, I dont want to rely on any product descriptions of this machine to find out if it has an AGP slot.
So here’s a picture! This top, brown slot looks to me like it might be a low profile AGP slot, but maybe one of you can tell me for certain.
Sounds like you could use a new mobo there, mikau. The reason being that anyone who’s looking to get into GL desktop coding is going to want to start with GL 3.2, which means SM4 hardware at minimum, which then means… yep, you guessed it.
P.S. I say we organize an international laptop burning day - a day in which we, the angry laptop owners of the world, unite in a no holes barred festival of mobile graphics conflagration. Then what we really need is a clever strap and back pack that’d make lugging a desktop and a car battery or two around less objectionable.
I really dont want to do anything super sophisticated, Brolingstanz. I don’t care if its not the latest and greatest version of OpenGL or the best hardware, I just want something reasonable so I can practice OpenGL while I study it. I mean my laptop cant even chugh out 1000 poly’s at 60 frames per second.
