Cant load games

I have just reinstalled Medal of Honour Allied Assault on my computer and it wont run. It starts then comes up with the messages
Initializing OpenGL driver
…getting DC: succeeded
…GLW_ChoosePFD( 16, 16, 0 )
…35 PFDs found
…GLW_ChoosePFD failed
…GLW_ChoosePFD( 16, 16, 0 )

…restoring display settings

…assuming ‘3dfxvgl’ is a standalone driver
…initializing QGL
…WARNING: missing Glide installation, assuming no 3Dfx available
…shutting down QGL
GLW_StartOpenGL() - could not load OpenGL subsystem

Any ideas how I overcome this.

Many thanks for any advice.

Try switching your desktop to 16-bit color mode (via screen settings). This game seems to want 16-bit color (only assumption) that modern cards have problem supporting.

MOHAA runs fine in 24/32-bit display mode (and 16-bit probably as well). You may have more luck after updating your graphics drivers drivers.

I have a similar problem whilst trying to start Quake 3. 3D Accel. seems to be working perfectly according to it’s Windows User Experience score. Just can’t load any games that use OpenGL. I’m using an NVidea GeForce 7600 GT with up to date drivers. I get the following Message:

GLW_StartOpenGL() - could not load OpenGL subsystem

I got this same error with “Return to Castle Wolfenstein”. Read a bunch of stuff in various places about changing
video card settings, there was even one guy who had modified .exe and dll files to fix some “reading too many
objects” problem.

I ended up getting the console output by rebooting to Safe Mode (the console doesn’t auto shutdown in Safe
Mode). Exact same errors too.

So, I thought I’d rollback the OpenGL drivers on my Vista64 machine by just replacing them with older OpenGL
drivers (no dice), Vista won’t let you delete them (even in Safe Mode).

The answer that worked was to roll-back (reinstall) my video card (GEForce 8300GS) to these drivers from 2007.
I had the 191.07 drivers installed, but when I installed the 182.06…he began to dance around. BTW-I just installed
over the new drivers, but you might want to reboot to Safe Mode, uninstall your newer drivers, and then install
the old versions while in Safe Mode.

I figure it’s because newer games aren’t using the OpenGL as much or something (from what I’ve read) and
they’ve rolled back OpenGL support in newer drivers.

Not sure if this is good or not as that opening movie to RTCW was STUUUUUUPIID. Looks like Jesus in a stupid
suit of armour in some lame CRPG game that was never released. Oh well…:disgust: … beats playing that new
Halo game…I just hope we don’t have to fight flaming skulled spacemen in the future…ha ha ha ha ha!
