Q: 2.0 books timeframe? implementation timeframes?

hi all. i’m debating when to upgrade my opengl book collections since i’m working off very old copies. should i go for the 1.4 version book editions, or wait for the 2.0 to come out? the 1.4 seem to be late 2003 / mid 2004. with the 2.0 spec just out, does that mean a few months to new books, or?

related: any leads on when ogl implementations will bump to 2.0? i’m most interested in the mac os x platform. i’m sure a lot of us would be interested in knowing when we can expect 2.0 features to be generally available.

thank you very much,
david

Don’t know, but I vaguely imagine the spec stabilizing in a year or two’s time around version 2.1 or 2.2, once render-to-texture and other such vital missing bits are in. Hopefully this will also be about the time that good implementations (including full glslang support) will be widely available, so that the book can ignore the fixed-function pipeline and concentrate on teaching “pure” GL2x, whatever people decide that means.

I don’t know that there’s much point putting a book out before then.
