    Setting up

Is hardware T&L used automatically under linux or must I switch it on manually?
And how do I decide if the linear filtering is bi- or trilinear?

Kind of all depends on your hardware and the drivers, I think. In most cases you have to switch on DRI (Direct Rendering Interface).
