Very dark screen - Riva TNT2 Ultra

I dont know why but it seems whenever I play a game in OpenGl and fullscreen the picture goes really dark. This problem has always happend to me with the Riva TNT 2, if I change from fullscreen to part screen...in Quake 3 the colors get way lighter, but in Q2, they stay the same

anyone have a fix for this?
