    Probelms with OpenGL

It seems that OpenGL no longer works on my machine. Everytime I try to start an Unreal Tournament game or Half-Life game, Windows gives me the following error:

    " General protection fault!
    History: UOPenGLRenderDevice::MakeCurrent<-UOpenGlRenderDevice::SetRes <-UOpenGlRenderDevice::Init <- UWindowsViewport::TryRenderDevice <- UWindowsViewport::OPenWindow <- UGameEngine::Init <- InitEngine "

OpenGL has worked in the past. I don't remember making any changes on my machine that would affect OpenGL. I have a 32 MB NVidia TNT2. I am currently running the Detonator 7.17 drivers.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Dave

It's probably just windows or something. It really is a crap operating system, so it just screws itself up for no real reason. Don't ask me how to fix it, though.

if you really like the NON windows type OS`s
then take a look at http://get.qnx.com
for the Free For Personal Use QNX `RTP`,
    [QNX are Phx Members].

it makes a really good desktop OS too, as
many people have found out since its release
back in Oct [Patch A just Released].

it has OpenGL and 3dFx as its base
engines, theres wads of online developers
docs on their site and you can also chat with the many dev`s and users over at http://www.getqnx.com the `Phoenix Developers
    Consortium` partner site.

they also have a news server you can take
    at news://inn.qnx.com.

renderware and several other good things
are also included, you first download
    eather the windows installable binaryfile
[26meg] or the ISO image that can install from windows or linux [90meg], then you use their included repository tool from inside
RTP (RealTime Platform) to install any or
all the included developers tools [LOADS of good stuff there].

i`d like to see many more 3rd party OpenGL coders/users take a look at this nice bit of free kit, and perhaps port some or all of the best
code to the Native RTP Photon GUI rather than the current X layer most first try
3rd party dev`s are going right now, its way
faster than the included xPhoton layer
and would allow you to become far more
    creative in your base code.

please take a look and realise that even
though this RTP looks like an enbeded OS
its got the potential to be a great
desktop OS too, thats why Phx support
it as their base OS (alongside the new
Elate RT OS that amiga Inc [also Phx Members]are working with).

    Hi

The openGL in Unreal Tournament its just an experimental mode. Dont bother it. Unreal should be played in Direct3D.

But you seems indeed to have a problem with OpenGL. Goto run and type Win.ini and search for a line called DVA. If you have this line give me a reply

    Re: Probelms with OpenGL

I searched my win.ini but couldn't find the DVA line.

However, I did manage to solve the problem by copying the "3dfxgl.dll" from the /Half-Life/gldrv directory to the top level dir.

If anyone knows why this solved my problem, please tell.

    Thanks,
    Dave

    Hi

Really odd. Did you a replacement of the file in the top or was it missing.
