About the texture dynamic alloctation... perhaps we won't need it for PTex ( although would be fantastic to have it ).
We could allocate a BIG texture and "atlas" the PTex faces.
Then, we just...
Well, we really need a few things to accelerate Ptex:
1. Image array support allowing different image sizes.
2. A texture filtering method using face adjacency.
3. A texture fetching based on a...
I like OGL due to these reasons:
1. It's portable to other systems: Windows, MacOSX and linux, etc..
2. You can use DX11's tessellation in WinXP.
3. It supports relatively-new-things like...
Pls, develop an extension to work with Ptex textures.
We really need that for CAD, tools, etc...
PTex is a library developed by Disney to map a texture to each face in the model, getting awesome...
There is a problem with that.... I could have not have a monitor attached to the GPU. I'm using the GPUs for GPGPU, not really to display.
Yep, I need something like the ID3D10Device/ IDXGIFactory/IDXGIAdapter/IDXGIOutput so I can select what GPU to use to render, even when the monitor is not plugged into the card.
Btw, I've not...
YEs pls, support unsigned integers!
Hi,
imagine I have 3 cards without SLI. I want to render to a texture using the card #2 which is not attached to a monitor. After the texture is rendered, I'm gonna retrieve the data for the CPU...
thx rob!
Oh, that's nice. Could you tell me the exact functions to look for, please? Heheh, the gl.h is very large :P
Is there a way to perform draw predication like it's done in DX10 but using OpenGL, pls? Perhaps an specific extension I missed?
thx.
Ahhh! I figured :D
Ok so the idea is: continue using the old GLSL as before and forget glFX.
Hello again,
I see in Khronos a glFX but... where can I download it, pls?
Does it include shader precompilation, multi passes support and piece/"fragments" linking like DX's fxc?
thx
I basically missed the promised object model, threading/multiGPU and resource sharing.
I'll continue using OpenGL due to portability... but also all the other graphical APIs ( Direct3D, libgcm, Cg, software rendering, Renderman, etc )... just because I like to know all the APIs.......
First, I must say i'm pretty dissapointed about that spec. You promised a lot but I have the impression you gave us really an "OpenGL 2.2". On the other hand, i'm still waiting a method to manage...
woot! OGL 3.0 is out!

AFAIK, the Gather4 is supported only by ATI Radeon 3XXX cards(3870,3650,etc) and the S3 Chrome 430GT, both under DX10.1 and Vista. However, if you need it for a depth map, the old ATI's Fetch4 should...
ok, no real OpenGL 3 news from the GDC 8(
Well, almost we got some for COLLADA and OpenGL|ES
Well, although I'm sure you could implement a lot of things using extensions, perhaps they want to change some core parts to fit better predication, DrawAuto, queries/diagnostics/stats, multiGPU...
I think the problems are:
1. Initially they wanted to launch Longs Peak... but then somebody realized the interfaces they were designing won't fit well in the Evans model... so I suspect they are...
I did this on his computer:
