    In OPENGL_CORE_PROFILE a VertexArrayObject must be explicitly created and bound. Try adding this just before call to

    The trick with using a #define directive is good and I should try that.

    Another option that I have been using is GL shader wrangler: http://prideout.net/blog/?p=11 .

    Re: implementation of API in openGL/Mesa

    Yes, mesa source code is completely open to look at. Why haven't you simply downloaded the source code at their website and looked at the code?

    Have you clicked on the "Documentation"->"FAQ" link...

    Re: implementation of API in openGL/Mesa

    I don't quite understand the question ... What hardware CPU? GPU? do you plan to utilize with linux? This will help decide which case above makes most sense.

    In linux if you want:

  9. Re: why does SwapBuffers take up so much cpu time?

    60 frames per second is the monitor refresh rate and is equal to 16.6ms per frame -- definitely vsync enabled.
  10. Re: Uploading an image using DevIL: Linker errors

    DevIL is a good library to be able to use. It is good to suggest use of alternatives but it is also valuable to learn how to setup up the compiler tools. The common windows way of passing around a...

    Ok, then manually download the latest Binary archive for Windows glfw - Download specifically the glfw-2.7.2.bin.WIN32.zip. Not the source download

    Then use the lib-mingw build. You only need...

    Are you using the dev-paks?

    To download and install from within the IDE:

    Ah, you are using dev-c++ in windows ... the DevIL devpak is a little unconventional in its use of library names. This affects the linker options ...

    Re: another interesting GLEW error

    I have not seen such a persistent error with glew before especially when glewinfo.exe reports these functions as "ok".

    This result suggests that glew32.dll is not the problem. How are you getting GL contextx? Using freeglut/sdl/other?

    Re: another interesting GLEW error

    I doubt glew32.dll is corrupted. Your clues actually sound like your openGL drivers may not be what you expect.

  18. Re: Uploading an image using DevIL: Linker errors

    Using DevIL on both Linux and windows has worked well for me -- no problems.

    Note on Linux you need to add "-lIL -lILU" (case sensitive) to the link options. In some cases you may also be using...

    Re: another interesting GLEW error

    You need to give more precise information. Do you have a minimal code that demonstrates the problem? What exactly is the link error? Or is this a runtime error? What compiler?

  21. Re: noob cannot figure out what is wrong - code crash.

    In addition to above post,

    since you know for certain that it is a gearClass pointer you can use the static cast and

    pGC = static_cast<gearClass*> (allObjs.pObjs[z]);

    My version of compiler is same as yours

    $ gcc --version

    When you say it crashes are you running gdb

    Looks like you are calling gl functions before creating a window ... move to top of main

    Re: Passing arrays to shader

    The previosly noted reference talks about other methods but the VBO is the recommended one. It is well worth the effort to learn about VBOs.
