Mesa /OpenGL

I want to work with OpenGL in Linux. Is the same Mesa that OpenGL for this plataform?...Or is there OpenGL for Linux?...
I don't understan what's the difference between OpenGL and Mesa....

Mesa is a GPLed (or maybe LGPLed) implementation of something that looks remarkably similar to the OpenGL API.
